My name is Rachel Friedman and I am a sophomore at the University of Tampa. I come from a small town in Westchester, New York, 30 minutes outside of New York City. I grew up my entire life at a very fast-pace so moving down to Tampa was a culture shock for me with how slowly everything runs.
In the beginning of my Freshman year here at UT, I went through the formal recruitment process and was accepted to become a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Very early on, Alpha Chi Omega stressed the importance of Academic Interest and the consequences of falling bellow the all women's GPA average. Alpha Chi Omega inspired me to turn around from the poor student I was in high school and use resources available to me to become a significantly better student in college. With the help of my sisters who come from all different majors, I have worked towards forming bonds with them that I have with no one else, and a huge support system to help me when I struggle.
Coming in to ART 210 on the first day of class I was nervous. I am an Advertising and Public Relations major and have truly never had any exposure to Photoshop, Dreamweaver or illustrator. Although going through the code in Dreamweaver was complicated, I was beginning to understand the different codes and the back work to how Photoshop works. Although I am timid to see how difficult each project gets, I am excited to show my creativity through a new medium. I want to put ,y absolute all and eventually feel confident in my ability to use many different computer programs. My semester as a whole should be interesting as each of my classes forces me to step out of my comfort zone in its own way.
I hope to one day work as a consultant with different types of businesses on ways they can use simple resources to get a message across, advertise effectively in their community, and what to do when things go sour. I believe in the power small businesses have on their own communities and want to work towards making them as strong as they possible can be.
